August is National Breastfeeding Month!

National Breastfeeding Month is dedicated to protect, promote, and support breastfeeding. Breastfeeding supports a connection between mother and baby, and provides nutritional benefits to both mother and baby. Celebrating August as National Breastfeeding Month allows us to foster a supportive community for all breastfeeding mothers and recognize the incredible journey of breastfeeding. National Breastfeeding Month highlights the powerful bond between mother and baby that is nurtured through breastfeeding. Not only does breastmilk provide nourishment, breastfeeding creates a deep emotional connection. During breastfeeding, mother’s are able to provide skin-to-skin contact, eye contact, and being able to soothe your baby. This connection provides a sense of security and trust that provides a beginning to a positive, loving relationship to last a lifetime. While breastfeeding, oxytocin (also known as “the love hormone”) is released, which helps mom’s emotional well-being as well!
